Born in Medellin, Colombia, to Cuban parents and then moved around to 8 cities before the age of 9, Michelle Villalobos has NEVER been still.
She holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Mathematics, as well as Spanish Literature (Double Major) from Dartmouth College, as well as an MBA in International Business from University of Miami.
After successful careers in sales – as a fine art consultant then real estate agent – Michelle burst onto the big business scene at 29 when she took over as Executive Publisher of Emilio Estefan and Ocean Drive Media’s struggling print magazine, Ocean Drive Español.
With zero marketing budget or new hires, Michelle orchestrated a turnaround that ultimately quadrupled revenues in 3 years (during a time that the print industry was shrinking) by identifying new revenue streams, developing innovative sales and marketing strategies, launching sponsor-driven event initiatives and employing email and newsletter marketing tactics (before they were all the rage.)
After nearly 7 years with Ocean Drive, Michelle decided it was time to utilize all she'd learned to start her own business helping small businesses achieve their own turnarounds. So she went out on her own and launched Mivista Consulting, Inc. The meaning of "Mivista" is threefold: "Mivi" is Michelle's nickname, MiVista means "my vision" in spanish, and it's also an acronym for "Mindset, Vision, Strategy & Action" – Michelle's 4 Pillars of Business Success.
In 2007, Michelle began providing live educational programs, online articles and videos to teach those same business concepts and skills in a fun, interactive and hands-on environment. Since then, MiVista has developed a series of workshops, which have captivated thousands and generated a large and loyal following.
This success has drawn major sponsors and clients like Constant Contact, HSBC and Costco, who either hire Michelle to train their teams or use her events as a platform to engage a professional, high-level audience.
Mivista Workshops & Seminars has developed or delivered educational business programs for:
→ Gibraltar Private Bank & Trust
→ Frito Lay
→ MPI (Meeting Planners International)
→ Burger King (Women's Leadership Foundation)
→ Great Florida Bank
In 2010, Michelle launched the Women's Success Summit, which immediately became Miami's largest business conference for women, drawing on average 600 professional, ambitious, successful and self-improvement-hungry women twice a year.
Why do they come? Because Michelle advocates an “anti-marketing” (her term) approach to business, one that eschews traditional “push” tactics in favor of “pull” strategies that draw referrals, opportunities, media exposure, and ultimately, sales.
Her consulting work involves helping companies figure out creative ways to generate sales, and she also trains sales teams on how to upsell and cross-sell more effectively, particularly by learning to read personality type and connect on a deeper level – whether in person or over the phone.
In 2011, Michelle – together with Jessica Kizorek, founder of BadassBusinesswomen.org – founded Make Them BEG: Stop Selling & Start Seducing With Your Irresistible Personal Brand, which has helped hundreds, if not thousands, of women become more fulfilled and more prosperous with their small businesses. In 2013, Make Them BEG won The Miami Herald Business Plan Challenge, which is a huge honor.
